Gingival and Periodontal disease

Gum disease / periodontal disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. Together with the tooth decay they are #1 cause of tooth loss in adults. Because gum disease is usually painless, you may not know you have it.
Periodontal disease is caused by plaque, the sticky film of bacteria that is constantly forming on our teeth.

Some of the warning signs of periodontal disease:
  • gums bleed easily
  • red, swollen, tender gums
  • gums that have pulled away from the teeth
  • persistent bad breath or bad taste
  • permanent teeth that are loose or shifting/ separating
  • any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite

Reviewing the condition of the tooth-supporting steps is essential for the further trail you will have to preserve your teeth.
The periodontal examination at ETERNAdent includes a large number of examinations carried out with indices that help to precisely determine the cause, as well as the prognosis and further treatment. Early detection of the signs of the disease with simpler therapy and the possibility to bring the disease completely under control.
The process is completely painless, and the first results are visible after only few days.
In ETERNAdent, the prevention of the periodontal disease takes a special place, with specially established evidence – based protocols.
Prevention of periodontal disease costs much less than its therapy, so do something very useful for yourself: call ETERNAdent to schedule a consultation and examination to determine your dental and periodontal status.

Early stages of periodontal disease are effectively treated with non-surgical periodontal therapy. This involves removing bacterial plaque and tartar that are present on and below the gum line.
Since bacteria can firmly attach to the tooth roots below the gingival/palate line, it is also necessary to “deep cleaning” by treating the root surface.
Our practice has made great progress in the non-surgical treatment of periodontal problems. By applying innovative techniques, we are able to achieve periodontal health in a simple, non-invasive and affordable way.
A classic conservative method of treatment with the so-called “deep cleaning” under the gingiva with treatment of the periodontal pocket, which also includes the cleaning of the root surfaces. Local anesthetics are used to numb the area and contribute to greater patient comfort. Debridement of the periodontal pocket is a fundamental approach to effectively treat the disease and allow the gums and surrounding tissues to heal properly. This procedure is the basis of non-surgical periodontal therapy.
For some patients, systemic antibiotics or antimicrobial agents may be prescribed to be taken orally to help treat their periodontal disease.

Laser therapy is also used to treat moderate to advanced periodontopathy
and is one of the more widespread applications of this technology. The benefits of using lasers for non-surgical periodontal therapy include:

  • minimally invasive approach to root cleaning,
  • calculus removal, detoxification and killing of periodontal bacteria,
  • intervention even to hard-to-reach areas, unlike conventional therapy,
  • without pain or with minimal need for anesthesia,
  • sterility – the laser beam itself sterilizes the tissue we are working on, destroys bacteria, thus helping us to remove the root cause of the infection,
  • faster tissue healing – laser light stimulates metabolic processes in diseased tissue and enables faster healing compared to conventional treatment methods. faster tissue healing – laser light stimulates metabolic processes in diseased tissue and enables faster healing compared to conventional treatment methods. The absence of bacteria in the working field also contributes to faster, smooth tissue healing,
  • without bleeding – the laser allows us to perform coagulation in parallel, which reduces bleeding to a minimum or to none at all.

Early problems associated with periodontal disease can be successfully treated with non-surgical therapy. But a small number of moderate to advanced cases can’t be resolved without surgical access to the root animals and their debridement.
For many people, the idea of gum surgery creates anxiety. However, at ETERNAdent, we can effectively treat the disease with a less invasive laser periodontal treatment, without the need for a scalpel or sutures. As a result, you will notice fewer and shorter recovery times.

The professional team at ETERNAdent led by prof. Ana Minovska successfully treats more advanced forms of periodontal disease by applying:

  • Conventional mechanical treatment approach and
  • Modern, using the so-called laser. laser-assisted surgical therapy

The safe and effective use of the Er: YAG laser in the surgical treatment of periodontopathy (diseases of tooth-supporting tissues) has been confirmed and the positive effects of its application on both soft and hard tissues have been proven. The benefits of this treatment are:

  • less bleeding during the procedure;
  • surgical site decontamination;
  • the laser is bactericidal (no antibiotics are necessary after the operation);
  • comfortable post-operative outcome;
  • less swelling and less pain (studies show this may be due in part to the closure of smaller blood vessels, lymph vessels and exposed nerve endings);
  • more efficient cleaning of the bone;
  • shorter duration of the surgical procedure;
  • no vibration of rotary tools;
  • patient comfort;

The Er: YAG laser leaves a bone surface that is absolutely clean, reducing the possibility of secondary infection.
